If you are not participating in the King Soopers and/or Scrip program because you don’t think it amounts to much money, take a look at these numbers.  In 2009:

$267,779.02 in King Soopers reloads resulting $13,388.95 of credit to our participating families.

$113,000.00 in Scrip (gift card) reloads and purchases resulting in $7,156.00 of credit to our participating families.

One family alone has earned a total of $1,444.50 for 2009 ($743 in scrip credit and $701.50 in King Soopers).  To break that down even further, the funds to be used for the upcoming 2009/2010 season would be $629 ($377 for scrip and $252 for King Soopers), so they are already half way towards paying their daughter’s fees and they haven’t had to write a check – it has all been through fundraising.

If you’re finally convinced this can work for you, read below for further information and how to get started.  If you don’t shop at King Soopers, look at the list of food stores available on the Scrip program.

KING SOOPERS GIFT CARDS

The Fort Collins Stars offers King Soopers reloadable gift cards.

How it works:  You purchase a reloadable card with a $5 value from the Fort Collins Stars.  When you shop at King Soopers, or any Kroger affiliate, you can load the card for your shopping needs up to a maximum of $500 per reload, but you can reload as often as you need to.  When reloading your card at King Soopers, you can pay by check, cash or credit/debit card.  5% of your card reloads for King Soopers goes back to your daughter’s account.  The cards can be used for groceries and gasoline at all King Soopers, City Market and various other Kroger affiliated locations around the US, including Kroger, Fred Meyer, Ralphs, Fry’s and Fry’s Marketplace, Dillons, Smith’s Food & Drug, City Market, QFC, Food 4 Less, Owens, Foodsco., Hilander, Pay-Less, Cala-Bell, Baker’s, JayC, Fred Meyer Jewelers, Loaf & Jug Markets, and Littman & Barclay Jewelers.  Every four (4) weeks, King Soopers issues a statement showing the amount of reloads by our organization.  Based on the number on the back of the card, we keep track of your reload amount and issue you the 5% credit.  During 2009, our Club had $267,779.02 in reloads resulting in a $13,388.95 credit being distributed among the various families participating.  GET IN ON THE ACTION! Contact Dani Rios (970) 215-3612 if you would like to purchase a card.  Payment in cash or check is due when you get your initial card.  You are welcome to purchase more than one card if you’d like to get your friends and family to help.  Any card with a zero balance for 90 days will become inactive and you’ll have to purchase another card through the Stars in order to get the credit back to your account.

GREAT LAKES SCRIP CENTER

When you purchase SCRIP, you are purchasing negotiable gift certificates that are used just like cash (the same concept as our King Soopers cards). The scrip is issued by the national and local retailers where many of us already shop. These merchants want to support non-profit organizations, and in return ask you to support them by shopping with scrip at their stores. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for your daughter’s account.

First, check out the list of retailers that are offered through the program and contribution percentages by logging on to www.glscrip.com and click on the Retailer List to get the most up to date list.  Some retailers allow you to pay an in-store credit card with these fundraising cards, while others have restrictions on the amount of cards you can use when redeeming them on-line so please check the “fine print” on the back of the cards.

If you think your family could benefit from using this Scrip program, go to www.shopwithscrip.com.  Click on the Get Started tab, then Register on the left hand side.  Complete the registration form as indicated.  Where it says Student and Teacher, please type your daughter’s name (next to Student) and her coach’s name (next to Teacher).  If you have more than one daughter in the program, you can type both names separated by a slash mark, for example Sydney/Sloan and then under Teacher, type both coaches, Dougherty/Augustine.

Once you have registered, you will be asked for an organization code which is 3E2C514C16589.  You are now ready to shop!  When you are done shopping and you submit your order, it will be held in the Stars directory until it is released to the Scrip Center for order.  You will be added to the Scrip e-mail list where you will receive e-mails of upcoming special offers from retailers like special bonus awards.  Occasionally retailers reduce their bonus percentages, so you will be kept apprised of that as well.

Orders are placed every two weeks, on Wednesday, before 9:00 a.m. (typically the first and third Wednesday of the month).  The Great Lakes Scrip Center will automatically debit the Stars' checking account so all orders will need to be paid in full before your order is released.  The order is delivered to Dani Rios, our scrip coordinator, by the following Tuesday.  After you submit your order, you will need to make arrangements to get a check to Dani Rios (1951 Silvergate Rd., 80526 – 215-3612), made payable to the Fort Collins Stars, for the total amount of your order.  Alternatively, you can use the PrestoPay option directly through the scrip center.  You will need to register for PrestoPay prior to your first order.  After registering for PrestoPay, you will receive an authorization code which you will need to forward to Dani so she can activate your account.  That will save you a step in writing a check and mailing or somehow getting it to Dani.  PrestoPay assesses a .15 cent convenience fee.  Please note that when using PrestoPay, your checking account is debited when you place your order, not when the order is released.  You will receive an e-mail or call when the order arrives and to arrange a pick up time and location.

In 2009, we ordered over $113,000.00 in products and have received approximately $7,156.00 in credits!  Best of all, you are receiving that credit by spending money on items you would buy anyway!

Once your softball fees are paid in full you can build up credit in your daughter’s account and get reimbursed for softball related activities like travel, softball equipment, additional lessons/training, etc.  If you decide not to reimburse yourself, your credits will remain in your daughter’s account and can be applied to the next year fees.  Contact the Club for more information regarding credits and reimbursement.

King Soopers/Scrip

For more information please contact Dani Rios at drios20@comcast.net or 970-215-3612.
Clarification:  There has been a lot of conflicting info on the KS cards and whether you can or cannot use them to buy other retailer cards. Apparently last November King Soopers started to allow this but they were only going to do it through the holidays.  They have kept it going so as of now, you are able to use your reloadable KS card to purchase other retailer cards.  EXCEPTIONS:  You cannot purchase other King Soopers gift cards, Visa pre-paid cards or the Green Dot cards.
