Fort Collins Stars Recreation Softball

The Fort Collins Stars Softball Club a Recreational Softball program. This program will allow players at any skill level to play the game of softball. This league will allow a player to:

  • Understand the game of fastpitch softball and how it is played.
  • To provide a means for individuals to improve their skills.
  • To socialize and meet new people.
  • To help individual players decide their desire to play the game and at what level.
  • To develop players for future interest in the game of softball.
  • To assist with developing coaches for future teams.

TEAMS

  • Recreation teams will be offered in the 8U, 10U, 12U, and Teen (13 years to 16 years) age divisions for the season.
  • The 8U team will consist of players 6 to 8 years of age as of January 1st of the season year. Playing up in the 10U age group level is allowed. At this level the coach pitches (5) pitches to the player, if the player does not hit the ball the ball is placed on a tee and the player has (3) more chances to hit the ball. No walking of the batter.
  • The 10U team will consist of players 9 and 10 years of age as of January 1st of the season year. Playing up in the 12U age group level is allowed. At this level the players pitches to the batter until the batter has a (4) ball count on them, then the coach pitches (3) pitches to the player, if the player does not hit the ball fair or strikes out they are out. No walking of the batter.
  • The 12U team will consist of players 11 and 12 years of age as of January 1st of the season year. Playing up in the Teen age group level is allowed. At this level the players pitch to the batter until the third consecutive batter has a (4) balls count on them, then the coach pitches (3) pitches to the player, if the player does not hit the ball fair or strikes out they are out. Some walking of the batter takes place..
  • The Teen age team will consist of players 13 through 16 years of age as of January 1st of the season year. At this level the players pitch to the batter at all times. Walking the batter takes place.
  • Each team will consist of a minimum of 11 players and a maximum of 15 players.
  • Registration forms are due by March 31.
  • Teams will be formed based on geographical location, coach selection and date registration form is received.
  • All players that register before the March 31st deadline will be placed on a team.

COACHES

  • Each team will consist of a Head Coach, which is usually a parent volunteer, and an assist coach.
  • Each coach and their assistant will be required to complete a coach’s application and an interview process with the Recreation Directors.
  • A back ground check will be ran on each coach and their assistant(s).
  • Training will be offered to all coaches through out the season.

SCHEDULE

  • Coaches will be able to receive the team’s equipment at the end of April.
  • Practice will be allowed to commence after the teams have been formed and the coach has attended the mandatory mid April coaches meeting.
  • Player can attend clinics at anytime before or during the season.
  • All games will be played in Fort Collins during the weekdays Monday through Thursday. Rained out or canceled games will be played on Friday and need to be scheduled by the Recreation Director.
  • Teams will play teams of their own age group.
  • Coaches will also have the opportunity of playing in several scrimmage games throughout the season if the team chooses.
  • Each team has the possibility of playing in 10-14 games for the season depending on the age group they are playing in.
  • The season will end in mid July.

UNIFORMS

  • Each player will be required to purchase the required reversible jersey.
  • The total cost for the jersey is $14.00 when ordered with registration form or $17.00 if ordered after registration. The jerseys will be ordered through the FCStars.
  • The jerseys will be delivered to each team in early May.

EQUIPMENT

  • Softball Cleats will NOT be required but will be strongly recommended.
  • Each girl will be required to provide her own glove for every practice and game. The Fort Collins Stars have a few used gloves that are offered to all players.
  • Water bottles will also need to be provided by each player.
  • The Fort Collins Stars will provide:
    • Softballs
    • Softball Bats
    • Catchers equipment

FEES

  • Each player will be required to pay the recreational fee for their appropriate age group at the time of registration. (approximately $110.00)
  • Each player will be required to purchase the reversible jersey as mentioned above, unless they have one from last season. ($14.00)
  • Scholarships are available for each qualifying player and must be received prior to April 15th. Scholarship forms are found on the FCStars web site.
